#steel vs copper

1 public question tagged with this topic.

Why is steel often chosen over materials like copper for heavy-duty structural applications?

Steel has a higher Young’s modulus (≈200×109N/m2) compared to copper (≈110×109N/m2), requiring a larger force to produce the same deformation, making it more suitable for resisting bending and stretching. As per NCERT, applying relevant law/formula with correct units and sign convention leads to Higher Young’s modulus. This satisfies dimensional consistency and physical conditions given, so option A is scientifically correct.
