In which fungal groups does an intervening dikaryotic stage commonly occur?
In Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes, plasmogamy may not be followed immediately by karyogamy. An intervening dikaryotic stage with two nuclei per cell, written as n + n, occurs and is called the dikaryophase.
