Question

Directions For Questions
Directions: Read the following passage carefully:
Our atmosphere is composed of several gases and other substances. The major gases are nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and carbon dioxide. Some minor gases, whose proportion is very low, are methane, neon, helium, krypton, hydrogen, etc. Other substances include water vapour, dust particles, and aerosols. Their percentage in making up the whole atmosphere is substantially variable. All of them are the constituents of the atmosphere and are included in its composition. The meaning of "structure" refers to the arrangement of the different parts into one. Therefore, the structure of the atmosphere consists of different layers, varying with altitude. It is primarily divided into two categories: the homosphere and heterosphere, based on the homogeneity or the mixing of the air. Within the homosphere, there are three layers: the troposphere, stratosphere, and mesosphere. The ozone layer is present in the stratosphere. The proportion of gases in these layers is almost uniform with height. All weather phenomena occur in the troposphere, and the temperature decreases with altitude. The temperature keeps increasing in the stratosphere because of the absorption of solar radiation by ozone. The mesosphere witnesses a decline in temperature, which reaches around minus 100°C, colder than the Antarctic. The thermosphere is the warmest layer. The atmosphere is very important to all living beings on Earth. Life is possible only because of the atmosphere. The importance of oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, ozone, and water vapour is immense for the survival of all kinds of life. The greenhouse gases maintain a good balance to keep the Earth livable.
