Amoeboid protozoans live in fresh water, sea water, or moist soil. The NCERT textbook describes that they move and successfully capture their prey by putting out cellular extensions called pseudopodia (false feet), perfectly exemplified by Amoeba. Some marine forms even have protective silica shells on their surface, and certain forms like Entamoeba function as harmful parasites in humans.
