Hyphae with septa are called

Septate hyphae contain cross-walls called septa dividing filament into compartmentalized cells while retaining cytoplasmic continuity. Septa form via centripetal ingrowth of plasma membrane and wall, contain central pore allowing cytoplasmic continuity, organelle and nuclear migration regulated by Woronin bodies in ascomycetes sealing damage. This contrasts with aseptate coenocytic hyphae where nuclei share continuous cytoplasm without septa. Terminology septate hyphae describes presence of septa, not absence. Rhizoids are root-like anchoring hyphae in Rhizopus. Therefore hyphae possessing regular septation are termed septate, common in Ascomycota and Basidiomycota.
