Coenocytic hyphae lack septa throughout vegetative mycelium, resulting in large multinucleate supercell where nuclei divide via mitosis without cytokinesis producing continuous cytoplasmic mass. Cytoplasmic streaming distributes organelles and nutrients efficiently. Occasional septa may form delimiting reproductive structures or sealing injury site. This architecture characteristic of early diverging fungi like Mucoromycota and Chytridiomycota. Presence of septa defines septate hyphae, absence of nuclei incorrect as numerous nuclei present, single nucleus per cell defines uninucleate septate condition. Coenocytic condition facilitates rapid growth and bulk flow.
