Bilaterally symmetrical with four trunk segments, cuticle moulted regularly, cryptobiotic capacity renowned. Phylogenetically sister to arthropods and onychophorans within Panarthropoda. Despite minute 0.1-1.2 mm size, exhibit extreme tolerance to desiccation, radiation, vacuum.
