Name reflects outside anus condition where anus lies outside tentacular crown. Colonial sessile aquatic filter feeders possessing box-like zooecia housing polymorphic zooids including feeding autozooids. Contemporary nomenclature retains Bryozoa for ectoprocts while Entoprocta elevated to separate phylum resolving confusion.
