Chilopoda or centipedes belong to class of predatory myriapods distinguished by dorsoventrally flattened body with odd number of trunk segments, each bearing single pair of legs, first trunk segment appendages modified into venomous forcipules with poison glands opening at tip for prey immobilization. Fast runners with long antennae, ocelli clusters or compound eyes aggregated, prefer humid leaf litter and soil. Diplopoda millipedes have cylindrical body with diplosegments bearing two leg pairs per segment, detritivorous slow movers. Leg insertion per segment and predatory venom apparatus define Chilopoda as rapid nocturnal hunters.
