Mendel's original work with pea reported complete dominance where F1 resembled one parent, segregation of discrete factors yielding 3:1 and independent assortment 9:3:3:1. Incomplete dominance where heterozygote shows intermediate phenotype, for example pink snapdragon flowers from red by white cross, was not observed by Mendel because all seven characters he selected exhibited clear dominant recessive distinction. Later discoveries expanded inheritance modes beyond his observations, incomplete dominance represents post-Mendelian extension, not described in his 1866 paper. Cytological correlation with prophase pairing, metaphase alignment and anaphase separation provides visual anchor for memorising genetic laws.
